The Estate of Japan videos of Elisabeth das Musical by Toho Company
The First Version (6 June 20oo - 1 October 2001)
Tokyo, Imperial Theatre (6 June - 30 August 2000)
22 July 2000 (Evening); Tokyo, Japan** Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Yoshio Inoue (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Ken Teraizumi (Max), Satomi Achiwa (Ludovika), Sylvia Grab (Frau Wolf), Keisuke Konno (Little Rudolf) Splendid unobstructed video with some great close-ups and very nice filming in general but grainy sometimes, sound is very clear. Very little of generation loss but aspect ration adjustment required (as seen on screenshots). VOB|2 DVD|4.71 GB
11/26 August 2000; Tokyo, Japan* Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Masaaki Uchino (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Yoshio Inoue (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Ken Teraizumi (Max), Satomi Achiwa (Ludovika), Sylvia Grab (Frau Wolf), Wataru Kitao (Little Rudolf Act 1), Keisuke Konno (Little Rudolf Act 2) The first act filmed at 11 August and the second at matinee of 26 August. Amazing picture and filming, marvelous close-ups included, judging by overall filming style filmed by the same person as 31.08.2001 video but this one is full. Also includes some footage of fans getting autographs from the cast. Masaaki Uchino now uses his stage name Seyo Uchino. VOB|2 DVD|5.53 GB
Nagoya, Chunichi Theatre (3 - 27 May 2001)
27 May 2001; Nagoya, Japan* Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Yoshio Inoue (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Ken Teraizumi (Max), Satomi Achiwa (Ludovika), Sylvia Grab (Frau Wolf), Keisuke Konno (Little Rudolf) Last day in Nagoya. Some generation loss and not too many close-ups. Still, the different angle gives the opportunity for better understanding what the original Toho version was like. Apparently, the set here is a bit different, at least there's no chariot here, probably this is caused by venue limitations or some other technical issue. MP4|2.11 GB looking for VOB
Osaka, Umeda Koma Stadium (3 - 31 August 2001)
31 August 2001; Osaka, Japan Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Yoshio Inoue (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Ken Teraizumi (Max), Satomi Achiwa (Ludovika), Sylvia Grab (Frau Wolf), Toru Takahashi (Little Rudolf) Last day in Osaka. Initially was listed as 28 August at every trading site I know but one Japanese traders insists that speeches at curtain calls indicate at 31 August. Missing ~30 minutes of the show. Amazing quality for its age. Great video and audio quality. Unfortunately camera often goes where it shouldn’t be. When Tod’s servants are on stage, camera will almost always aim at them. Unfortunately, filmer didn't used his camera's close-ups potential fully. Includes curtain calls and speeches. VOB|1 DVD|3.96 GB
The Second Version (6 March 2004 - 28 September 2012)
Tokyo, Imperial Theatre (6 March - 30 May 2004)
6 March 2004 (Premiere); Tokyo, Japan** Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Masaaki Uchino (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Premiere of Toho's second version of the show! Completely redesigned, altered lyrics and added Wenn ich tanzen will! Unfortunately, Zwischen Traum und Wirklichkeit was ommited. Good video except slight shakiness and a head obstructing small part of the stage, a few cover-ups as well. Masaaki Uchino now uses his stage name Seyo Uchino. VBO|1 DVD|4.03 GB
3? April 2004 (Matinee?); Tokyo, Japan Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Pak Tongha (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Originally only year was listed, later I saw it dated as "April 2004" and I tend to believe it, accurate date is my assumption based on matching cast members with schedule. Also there is a possibility it's 15 or 25 April. Great sound and colors, not obstructed. One of the earlier performance with some song being faster than usually. VOB|1 DVD|4.35 GB
9 April 2004; Tokyo, Japan* Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Pak Tongha (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Yet another capture of an early speeded up performance but much better quality this time. Generally greatly filmed but a bit unsteady bootleg with nicest close-ups. Some generation loss though, which affected the colors and made the sound a bit glitchy with some random temporary fadings from one or both sides. VOB|1 DVD|4.06 GB
Osaka, Umeda Arts Theater (3 November - 12 December 2004)
12 December 2004; Osaka, Japan* Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Last day for the first block of performances of the revised production. Updated version without any visible signs of generation loss and proper colors. New version also includes curtain calls with speeches by the cast, Shoichiro Koike (director and translator), Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay. Great filming with some minor shakiness, some compression. VOB|1 DVD|4.10 GB
Tokyo, Imperial Theatre (1 - 30 September 2005)
30 September 2005; Tokyo, Japan Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Masaaki Uchino (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Yoshio Inoue (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Inoue (as Rudolf) and Uchino's last. Some slight head obstruction. Good sound. Amazing video quality and close-ups. VOB|2 DVD|5.45 GB
Tokyo, Nissay Theater (3 - 28 May 2006)
12 May 2006 (Evening); Tokyo, Japan* Maki Ichiro (Elisabeth), Shinji Takeda (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Hizuru Kotobuki (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) VOB|2 DVD|7.92 GB
Unknown Venue
2008; Japan* Hikaru Asami (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Kanata Irei (Rudolf), Hizuru Kotobuki (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Quite a usual quality for Japanese videos. Some scenes are partly missed, for example argument between Sophie and Max is not included but the choir which is followed after the argument is included. Yamaguchi forgot to take off the coat during Wenn ich tanzen will so he sings the whole song in cab's disguise. MP4|3.83 GB looking for VOB
Nagoya, Chunichi Theater (3 - 28 August 2008)
9 August 2008 (Matinee); Nagoya, Japan Mayo Suzukaze (Elisabeth), Shinji Takeda (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Jun Hatsukaze (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Poor quality, mostly wideshot, lot of washout, slight color bleeding and head obstruction. Overloaded sound. Includes fragment form evening performance (from Milch! till ending of Act 1) with Hikaru Asami (Elisabeth) and Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), the rest of the cast is the same, picture quality is slightly better because camera is closer to stage (3rd screenshot). VOB|2 DVD|5.31 GB
Fukuoka, Hakataza Theater (3 - 28 September 2008)
6 September 2008 (Evening); Fukuoka, Japan** Mayo Suzukaze (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Hizuru Kotobuki (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Some head obstruction. Very nice quality in general but second act apparently was affected by transfer loss. There are some stripes which mostly can be seen on the black background only, also the sound from the left is quiet but overloaded but this can be easily fixed with VLC's audio settings. VOB|2 DVD|4.49 GB Not For Trade
Tokyo, Imperial Theatre (3 November - 25 December 2008)
4 November 2008; Tokyo, Japan** Hikaru Asami (Elisabeth), Shinji Takeda (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Soma Suzuki (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Jun Hatzukaze? (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf) Very nice capture except some short skips which lead to missing around 5 minutes from each act. The official cast schedule does not match with what can be seen in this video, Yamaguchi was supposed to play der Tod at both of the performances that day so there is a high possibility that the date is wrong. VOB|1 DVD|2.32 GB
Tokyo, Imperial Theatre (9 August - 30 October 2010)
9 October 2010; Tokyo, Japan** Hikaru Asami (Elisabeth), Yu Shirota (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Kaeiki Mori (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf), Waku Sakaguchi (Little Rudolf) Very interesting to see Shirota during his short run in the second production. Probably filmed by the same master as video below and there's not much to add about the quality except that here we can see DVD-VHS transfer loss. VOB|2 DVD|5.04 GB
19 October 2010 (Evening); Tokyo, Japan* Jun Sena (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Kenji Urai (Rudolf), Kaeiki Mori (Sophie), Kunio Murai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf), Shun Kikuchi (Little Rudolf) Yamaguchi's last in this block of performances, earlier than usual because he had to prepare to the role of Colloredo in Mozart! in November. Adorable video with some great close-ups as well. There're a few blackouts when the master can't avoid heads but that is a rare case, there are also a few skips, at least I noticed that Elisabeth's song at Rudolf's grave is missing. Strange enough, the mic seems to be more sensitive to Yuichiro Yamaguchi's voice because he sounds clearer and louder than the rest of the cast and the orchestra, Yamaguchi himself gives one of his best performances captured on camera. It is really interesting that Die Schaten here looks and sounds much better than in the 12.12.2004 video, even though it features same performers. VOB|2 DVD|4.87 GB
Nagoya, Chunichi Theatre (3 - 26 August 2012)
4 August 2012 (Matinee); Nagoya, Japan** Sumire Haruno (Elisabeth), Yuichiro Yamaguchi (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Kohki Okada (Franz Joseph), Genki Hirakata (Rudolf), Keaki Mori (Sophie), Kiyotaka Imai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf), Eru Yamada (Little Rudolf) 1000th performance of Toho Elisabeth! Amazing widescreen filming with rare but marvelous close-ups so you can see tons of make-up on 55-y. o. Yuichiro Yamaguchi, who left the show 2 months later. Unfortunately, the sound is a bit overloaded but otherwise ok. Includes special curtain calls (MP4 file) with cast members who accompanied the show during the run and some footage from the original 2000 show. Also, Maki Ichiro (the first Japanese Tod and the first Elisabeth in Toho production) appears as special guest. The 2012 block of performances itself is devoted to the musical's 20th anniversary. Unfortunately, Yamaguchi doesn't give his best performance. VOB|2 DVD|8.01 GB
Osaka, Umeda Arts Theatre (1 - 28.09.2012)
24 September 2012; Osaka, Japan** Jun Sena (Elisabeth), Kanji Ishimaru (Tod), Masahiro Takashima (Lucheni), Zen Ishikawa (Franz Joseph), Genki Hirakata (Rudolf), Hizuru Kotobuki (Sophie), Kiyotaka Imai (Max), Hitomi Harukaze (Ludovika), Hiromi Ito (Frau Wolf), Seishiro Kato (Little Rudolf) Filmed during show's final week, even after Máté's last! Not the best capture of the production, there's nothing more than midshots but the picture is very clear and also the master follows the action pretty good, plus it is the only known video of Kanji Ishimaru in the role. Additionally, this one is Kotobuki's last performance! The sound is a bit overloaded. I was told that this one is quite rare even in Japanese trading community, still this is not the original VOBs (I know for sure that it should be VOB), it was converted to MP4 and then screen recorded in MKV, but there is a chance I will retrieve the VOBs one day. Filmed by Taiga's fans so camera is always focused on him ignoring anyone else. MOV|1.41 GB Not For Trade
